Elise and I are excited to share one of her favorite snackers, which we will be gifting to her neighborhood friends and cousins, Shimmy + Olli. It's cheap and easy to make, and the dogs LUV it!
So what's the treat? Yogurt Pupsicles!
Using all organic ingredients, in a 1:1 mixture, combine fat free or low fat (only when I can't find fat free) plain yogurt with pumpkin or a combination of sweet potato, pumpkin, or butternut squash. (Note: these come in cans but are NOT pie fillings). Add a smidge of coconut oil and stir in a handful of frozen blueberries (they sell extra-large bags of frozen blueberries at the grocery store for cheap compared to fresh blueberries).
Elsie's other favorite flavor arrangement includes yogurt, a tiny bit of coconut oil, some peanut butter (any all-natural, no extra stuff peanut butter will work), and frozen blueberries. Just pop it in the freezer, and you're done.
I bought freezer-safe baby food storage containers from Wee Sprout on Amazon. They are dishwasher safe, PVC, Phthalate & BPA Free, and reusable & recyclable. Twelve 4oz containers come in each package, and the tops are all different colors. When I am ready to give them to her, I run where the top meets the container underwater for a few seconds until I can open it.
Without fail, she wigglebutts from the kitchen to her carpet where I deliver her treat. Then, she licks her way to bliss.
We usually give her one as a mid-day snack, but sometimes, I'll give her an extra one in the evening when we are eating dinner. I try to be "two marshmallow" and only give her one treat when I make them with peanut butter.
Elsie is good about not eating things other than food, so we just give it to her right in the little plastic container. If she were the type of dog that ate everything, including containers, then I'd get creative and probably use something different and easy to peel when freezing the yogurt.
If you're looking for an inexpensive holiday gift for your furry friends, Elsie gives these four paws up!
